Ready for the magical challenge of the Pyrenees? Our first day begins with a grand stage that visits the forests of Villanova, the rocky slopes of the Sierra de Chía, and the remote domains of the north face of the Turbón massif. A day with long climbs on tracks and thrilling descents on trails, seasoned with the best mountain landscapes.
The route starts in Castejón de Sos, ascends towards Chia by road and before arriving takes the path to the hermitage of the Virgen de la Encontrada to take a spectacular trail that leads us to Chía. After crossing the village, it continues along a track until reaching the Cruz de Benás or de Chia and from there descends first by Cantal de Arnaldico and then by another trail to a crossroads within the forests of Villanova, to climb by trail to a track that leads us to another more main one, to then make a short descent and in a curve take another track that connects us with the first great climb of the day (follow the indications of route 17 Camino de Ñara. Puro Pirineo until the track of the Roca del Sol), ascending by the south face of the Sierra de Chia towards the Collado de Resuali, which offers spectacular views of the Cotiella massif.
From this point, it descends by track until reaching the Ñara trail. A hanging trail and pedaling in its first section that becomes faster as it approaches the track of the Roca del Sol, near Chia (end of route 17). Upon reaching the track (we connect with route 2 Congosto de Ventamillo, to Gabás) we continue along it until we reach the Congosto de Ventamillo trail that leads to Seira. A trail where rock and steps predominate in the first part and with sections of pedaling and descents on gray marls, as it approaches Seira. The trail ends at a hermitage and on a concrete track, along which we will descend to the village of Seira, where we can replenish water and eat.
From Seira, the second and most demanding ascent of the day begins, along a demanding track and trail (the trail can be avoided by continuing along the track) until reaching Gabás. In this small village there is an escape from the route, continuing towards the village and taking the trail that goes down to El Run. But our route continues uphill along the track of the mythical Transpirenaica route, passing through forests and idyllic meadows until reaching Selvaplana. Once there, a PR trail takes us down towards Abella. A poorly defined high mountain trail in sections, with some rock steps and a fast and fun section at the end through the forest before connecting with the track that leads to Abella.
We ascend through the village of Abella on asphalt until we take a detour to the left (we connect with route 27 to San Martín de Veri) and continue crossing forests and meadows until reaching the village of Dos and then continue along a track towards San Martín de Veri. Upon reaching the road near this town, we turn right and continue along the paved track to go to Gabás, where the last trail of the day awaits us, which descends vertiginously towards El Run. A trail with some technical sections but generally very fluid and aesthetic within a boxwood forest. We will reach the wastewater treatment plant and continue along the track next to the left bank of the Ésera river until reaching Castejón de Sos, the end of our first stage.
