Second, high-altitude stage to complete the Pirineoh Magic Trail challenge. Today’s stage visits the villages of El Solano, delves into the forests of Selva de Conques, circles Pico Cerler via the Aramón Cerler ski resort and ascends to 2250 meters before descending towards Cerler, then to Anciles and Castejón de Sos along the most emblematic and beautiful trails of the Benasque Valley.
The route heads north through the Prados El Ral de Castejón de Sos, until reaching a track that ascends towards Sos and then to Ramastué, in a demanding climb that leaves us on the panoramic road of El Solano. Upon reaching Ramastué, we descend on asphalt to Eresué and from there we climb again along the Labert track that enters the impressive forests of Selva de Conques. Upon reaching the beginning of the Planadona trail, there is the option to descend to Anciles and return to Castejón, making a shorter version.
However, the challenge continues until reaching the Rincón del Cielo mechanical lift and from there, it enters the domain of the Aramón Cerler ski resort, until reaching the mythical Colladeta pass, bordering Pico Cerler. From here, a vertiginous descent on a track leaves us at the Ampriú station, from where we will continue along the road until taking a detour to the right on a track, which will lead us to the Cabaña de Ardonés. The approach to this point offers incredible views of the Benasque Valley.
From the cabin, the route climbs a broken track that crosses several ravines (requiring us to dismount a few meters) and ascends to the Collado del Burroyo or Picalbo (2,250 meters), the highest point of the Pirineoh Magic Trail and offering incredible panoramic views of the peaks over 3,000 meters of the Valle de Estós and its surroundings on the border with France.
From this pass, the descent begins along the high mountain path of Pianapomé. A spectacular trail, not very demanding and that crosses unique mountain landscapes and forests. The trail leaves us on the Mina track and from here, we continue downhill to the vicinity of Cerler, to then make a small climb along a trail towards the Cascadas de Ardonés (follow route 13 to the road), a mandatory photo stop.
Below the waterfalls, we connect with a track that takes us to the road that connects Cerler and the Ampriú station, along which we will descend until taking the Labert track to the left again. The track climbs up to the Rincón del Cielo lift and descends to reach the beginning of the Planadona trail, considered one of the best trails in the Puro Pirineo MTB center. A very long trail with technical rock sections but generally very fluid and fun.
Upon reaching the monumental village of Anciles, we will turn left (follow route 3 Ribera del Esera to Castejón de Sos) and continue along the left bank of the Ésera river, passing by the idyllic Linsoles reservoir and chaining sections of track and spectacular trails through boxwood tunnels, until reaching the Prados de El Ral again, already in the vicinity of Castejón de Sos.
Congratulations if you have completed our Pirineoh Magic Trail challenge. An epic journey in the most natural and wild Aragonese Pyrenees. Only for lovers of high-altitude Pyrenean MTB.
